LCHA's Housing Counseling Program is currently taking applications for a 2023-2024 Americorp Vista Volunteer 


Volunteer with LCHA's Housing Counseling Department for a year and you will receive the following benefits: 

  • $500/month housing stipend paid directly to your housing provider,

Per federal statutes, Americorp Vista stipends or benefits will NOT impact your current benefits.

Position:  Homeownership Program Designer

Help create homeownership in Lake County's low to middle income communities! Housing Counseling is looking for a community focused person to help us in the creation of a comprehensive homeownership program designed to benefit the lowest income Lake County residents. 

The AmeriCorps member will be responsible for: (i) the creation and implementation of an outreach plan that formalized partnerships with local area real estate professionals (lenders, agents, inspectors, insurance agents, attorneys, title companies), (ii) creation of an educational and counseling track for the pilot Homeownership Program, (iii) creation of marketing and educational materials to provide to clients of the Homeownership Program, (iv) the marketing of the program to Lake County residents, and (v) the triage and onboarding of those clients into the Homeownership Program. The AmeriCorps member will work in tandem with LCHA's HUD-Certified housing counselors to gain housing counseling experience and training that will prepare them to pass the HUD Housing Counseling Certification exam at the end of their term.

LCHA is part of the Housing Action Illinois AmeriCorps Network, an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. 

LCHA Housing Counseling values lived experiences, and will provide one-on-one training for the Americorp Member. Experience in the field is attractive, but not necessary.
